Nike React Infinity Run Flyknit 2 Review

Up here in the Northeast, it’s cold, windy, and we only get about 10 hours of daylight each day. It really is depressing even thinking about getting up to go for a run right now. Personally, I was planning on hibernating until March, until Eastbay sent me some new Nike running gear in the mail. Now, I really don’t have a choice. There’s nothing I love better than trying out new shoes, so I decided to get out there to test the latest new running sneaker for a Nike React Infinity Run Flyknit 2 review.

Function

Just like its predecessor, the Nike Infinity React 2 is a great sneaker for many different types of runners. The versatility of the full-length React foam sole provides a responsive, supportive, cushioned ride. You can use the Infinity React 2 for light jogs, short distance tempo runs, and longer distance runs. They’re also great to just walk around in and use for the gym. I’ve been slipping them on daily to walk my dog. Style-wise, I feel like the Infinity React 2 took a step backward, as it obviously looks a lot like the first model but is a little less sleek.

Fit

Just like the Infinity React 1, the Infinity React 2 fits true to size. There is plenty of room in the forefoot for wider feet, and the Flyknit upper provides flexibility and breathability. The implementation of a separate tongue and a padded heel help lock the foot down better than the Infinity React 1, which was a common complaint from runners about the first model. The platform is also wider than other running sneakers, so it compliments a lot of different types of feet – from narrow to wide.

During my first run in the Infinity React 2, I wore a very thin Nike running sock and my foot slipped a little bit since I have a normal/slightly narrow foot. I plan on using my normal thicker running socks for the next few runs.

Feel

Nike solved the squeaky arch issues that the first model had, as I’ve found the Infinity React 2 doesn’t squeak at all. You can still feel some arch support, which you may love, hate, or not even notice depending on your arch. Personally, I have a normal arch, so I notice it slightly when I begin a run, but then I don’t feel it anymore after about half a mile.

I found the weight of this model to be very similar to the first model – very lightweight but also no compromise on cushioning. It remains to be seen how durable the React foam will be on this updated model – that has also been a concern on past React models. The durability does seem to be improving with every new model, though.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I have no complaints with the overall performance and fit of the React Infinity Run 2. Though it’s somewhat missing the “cool” factor, it’s a solid, reliable running sneaker and won’t give you any issues. If I had to rate it, I’d give it an 8.5 out of 10.
