As much as I love my LL Bean Baxter State Parka, I start to get sick of wearing it by the end of February. Even as the snow continues to fall every few days, and the temperatures dip into the teens at night, I keep reminding myself that Spring is just a month away. It’s time to think about warmer temperatures and the longer, brighter days ahead. As much as I looked forward to layering back in late August and early September, I now cannot wait to start de-layering. Here are a few ways I’ve started this process the past few weeks.
Ditch the Parka
As I mentioned, I rely on my LL Bean parka more than any other winter item during the coldest months of the year. However, I’ve already started to leave the heavy down-filled coat behind on weekend errands and short trips. A cozy yet much more freeing alternative is the reversible fleece zip-up vest. I recently purchased this vintage Abercrombie one on Poshmark a few weeks ago and love the fit and feel of it. It’s baggy enough to layer on top of a heavy sweatshirt and pair with baggier jeans or cargos, and obviously doesn’t have sleeves so I feel a lot more freedom compared to the winter coat. Check out this similar vest here.
Hold onto the Flannel
One of the great things about flannel shirts is their versatility – they are warm enough to wear from September through early May. My Filson vintage flannel workshirt is baggy enough that I can throw a sweatshirt or hoodie on underneath and that’s all I need when the temperature is 35 degrees or above. Plus if you get too warm, you can take it off and tie it around your waist for the even more classic ’90s vibes.
Don’t Sweat It
If the temperature is creeping up into the 50’s, I can definitely get away with just the heavyweight sweatshirt. I’ve been eyeing up this Real McCoy’s sweatshirt for months now and decided to pull the trigger on it this week. Thank God I did – it was their last one in my size! I plan on pairing it with some heavier tees for a nice cozy fit.
